Introduction to our project

January 2014

Dear family and friends,

We are writing to you from our homeschool.  We have just finished reading the book Dear Annie by Judith Caseley.  In this story, Annie gets lots of postcards, cards, and letters from her grandpa, and she brings them to school for show and tell.  We thought that sounded like a fun idea and would like to do something similar.

We would love for you to be a part of this project.  Will you send Madalyn a letter or postcard telling us a little about where you live (what do you like most about the area, what’s the weather like there, interesting things about the area)?  Other fun things to include in your envelope may be photos (yourself, your home, your family, an activity), a local map, or a travel pamphlet.  Also, please share something special about yourself… something you would like her to know.  We will be posting a pin on our map of where you live once we receive your letter or postcard.  We will also post pictures on this blog as we receive letters in the mail.

Through this project, we hope to work on geography, letter writing and, reading skills, and also learn more about families and relationships.  Most of all, my hope is that this is a memorable project for all who are involved and that the letters that are shared are enjoyed and treasured.
